those were the days....

I am so excited about today because its gonna be a blast from the past! So if you haven't heard I am teaming up with Chelsee from Southern Beauty Guide, Amanda from Rhyme & Ribbons, and Kristyn from Carolina Fireflies to bring you the one-time link-up GREEK is GREEK!!! 

If you haven't guessed yet I was a Gamma Phi Beta. I rushed a few different sororities my freshmen year of college but Gamma Phi was the only one I wanted. When bid day came I was beyond excited when I got accepted into Gamma Phi....I knew I was in the right place. 

SO I know sororities & fraternities don't have the best reputations.....& I REALLY wish I could sit here & say you're wrong about what you've heard - but you're not. At least not my experience with them. Its exactly what you think it is...boys, parties, drinking & drama.

But it was fun....& if I had to do it all over again.....i would. 

Some of my favorite things about being in sorority were the themed parties, the sisterhood outings and of course my absolute favorite...the FORMALS!!

I don't know about you but I loved school dances. I loved prom so of course I was going to like the formals.

So I thought I would take you down memory lane a little bit with a few shots from my Gamma Phi days....& the pictures aren't that clear because well....when I started college there was no Facebook....gasp! We took photos using disposable cameras & had albums upon albums filled with pictures. 

Big/Little week is such an amazing & fun time while you're a pledge. My BIG spoiled me with goodies. This wasn't even the HALF of it. 

Every fall all the sororities played power puff against each other & the frats would coach us. Our brother fraternity was SAE {good times with those boys...} Of course we were always in pink.

ah formals. my favorite.....& I was lucky enough to not only go to my own formals but be invited to some fraternity formals as well. Everything you've heard about the craziness of formals....its true. I can't lie....i don't remember them all.

One of my last formals, which happen to be an SAE formal was my favorite. It was on a huge 3 story ship and we cruised around all night....still a little blurry but I remember we all had a blast. Plus I was obsessed with my dress....

& because I am a little bit of a clothes hoarder I still have that same red dress.....& it still fits 8 years later...what can I say, some things never go outta style.

Towards the end of my college career I got really close with our brother fraternity SAE...those were some of the best times of my life...it may be a blur, but it was fun.

I really wish I could show you the thousands of thousands....& I really mean thousands of photos I have but that's it for today....hope you enjoyed this trip down memory lane. It seems like a lifetime ago to me.

Being a Gamma Phi Beta was a blast.....college was fun, i highly suggest it.

Celebrate MESS

messy people!!!

HI!

I'm Charissa and I blog over at The Smashbook, where I teach recovering perfectionists to embrace a messy life. 

I am soooo beyond stoked to be guest posting for Kelly today over here at MDH! 

I'm 24 years young, a Denver resident and I believe in screwing the lines on the paper. I grew up hating art class (really, I cried in a third grade art class. scarred me for life). Now, I teach people to create really freakin' awesome art. I know, it doesn't make sense. 

I'm out to change the world, much like Kelly, with the belief that MESSY is GOOD, and MESS can be CELEBRATED! I create pieces of art based on my daily activities (like my starbucks order...) or when I filed for divorce this past year. 

I've created through what I like to call  "trauma drama", which is the "blah" moments in life. I've had my share of mess (divorce, miscarriage, suicide, abuse, etc!) so I promise you that you're in like company, no matter the journey you're walking!

 Through all of that crap, I've learned that mess is natural, normal and even a good thing! 

I teach people that things are okay when they're not exactly perfect. In fact, they can be better when they're messy. 

I've created art in a storyboard, in journals and with a lot of different materials. I love meeting people that tell me they "can't do art". 

guess what? I can't do art either. I just make art, the way I want to, without any rules. 

BOOM.

All art is AMAZING art, simply because YOU created it... and no one else can do it like you do it!

I am a stand for the most pure, authentic love. the love that comes from embracing your mess and letting others see it. 'cause in real life, we are ALL messy. I curate an online space that shows you my mess. 'cause I can. and you know what happens when someone's mess mixes with yours? 

it is magic. 

I work surrounded by a tribe of messy loving, paint slinging, journal stomping, radical artsy mess makers. I hope you will come check it out!

hellllllllo friday! i really like the quote above....so many people tend focus on the negative side of things & not to look at the bigger picture & realize life is pretty good. 

I love my life. Sure I have my fair share of problems like everybody else but overall I am a pretty happy girl. There are however, a few teeny tiny little things I would be open to changing if I could....one of them being, my name. 

I know weird right? Its not that I don't like my name, I just don't think its anything special. When I was little I was OBSESSED with the name Melissa. I don't know why, but it's what I named every baby of mine. But as I grew older the name Melissa was no longer my favorite. I think as the times change, my favorite names change as well.

Why do I look so disheveled, you may be wondering?

Well, for the last 3 months, I've been living out of my suitcase.

No, I'm not homeless...

Actually, technically, yes, I am homeless.

Reason being, my main man and I decided to quit our jobs and sell everything we owned so we could travel the world.

So with these new circumstances, showers don't always happen.

Even though every place we've stayed at has a perfectly acceptable shower.

Except maybe the shower/pooper combo bathroom we had for a week in Malaysia.

Let's just say many excuses were made to not shower in that.

Okay, enough about my hygiene.

I'm very happy to meet you and I hope you can come say hi and keep me company while I'm galavanting around the world!

ok this is going to sound so dumb but I don’t work out at all. Pilates yes, but that’s all. I have always wanted to be that girl with the all the cool workout clothes & cool Nike shoes that come in all the fun bright colors!
