#TheMessyProject ----> #3

Posted on 2:48 AM by Unknown
its baaaaaaaackkk

hellllllo lovers!!!! so welcome back to round 3 of #TheMessyProject - if you're new around here & have yet to hear about #TheMessyProject you can check out alllll the information HERE ...but here's just a short & quick little intro to get you more acquainted with the project

The Messy Project

so this months item was defiantly something I knew could be worn in so many different ways! I wouldn't call it a top though - its more of a tunic. So here's the tunic each of the girls were sent -

The tunic is very sheer & can button almost all the way down. There is a detachable collar as well. When I got home & tried on the top I realized I could wear it as a dress. It was just long enough! That is probably my favorite thing about buying tunics - sometimes they can have 2 purposes!  I really loved the fun mixture of blues & greys in the top as well. Since we are venturing into fall I thought why not go with some darker colors.

I don't know why but when I tried it on I just got such a 60s vibe from it - so I decided to make my look more of a 60s go-go dancer theme--------> let me know what you thnk!

So as you can see since the top was super sheer I added just a simple black tank underneath. Then to make it more fall/winter appropriate I added black sheer tights.

My favorite thing about this tunic is the cute ruffles at the bottom. Gives it such a girly feel. Then I just added my grey clog like heels with a peep toe to go with my 60s/go-go dancer inspired theme.....& of course you need a high pony tail if you're going to be a go- go dancer!

Top: Boutique Tights: Nordstrom Sunglasses: Chanel Cuff: Tory Burch Shoes: MIA

I decided to keep the cute little collar on & just do some simple accessories. Diamond studs, a black cuff & top it off with classic big, dark sunglasses! So what do you think!? How would you have worn the tunic? Would you have tried it as a dress?

Sooooo you wanna see how the other 4 girls styled the top?! AND trust me they all did something COMPLETELY different - check them out ---->

The REAL Messy Challenge

Posted on 4:21 PM by Unknown

Are YOU going to enter the messy challenge?

But first - where did all this come from & how did Messy.Dirty.Hair. come to be!?

Society tries to tell us we need to be stick thin, with perfect hair & perfect makeup. Well who the hell died & made society king?! I am so sick & tired of the constant pressures there are to be a girl in today’s world. As if it weren’t already hard enough to be a girl we have society passive aggressively whispering in our ears that we need to be skinner, prettier & better.  Well that needs to stop & that’s what Messy.Dirty.Hair. is here to do.

I use to be that girl. I would wake up every morning 2 hours before I had to be at school & would shower, dry & straighten my hair stick straight, & then glob on unnecessary makeup. I don’t really know what I was trying to cover up. I did this consistently for years. In college I wasn’t as crazy about it for classes but I’d be damned if I went out to a party or bar that night without being dressed to the nines.
I could not stand the thought of a boy I was dating or even a boyfriend to see me without my makeup on. It was something I never thought I'd ever get over.

And then one day I just stopped.

It started with my hair. I was sick of taking all this extra time to do my hair & for what? It didn’t change me as a person. I was still the same Kelly with or without the straight hair.  So why was I doing it? It just started to seem dumb to me. Who was I trying to impress? If you don't like me for who I am in the inside, the way I look on the outside isn't going to change that.

So I stopped doing it. I started embracing my curly, wavy beast of a hair. At first I didn’t like it. I thought my face looked fatter with my wavy hair. It was a struggle, until one day I didn’t care anymore. I stopped doing my hair. I started washing it a lot less & let it air dry. That was the first step.

From there I stopped wearing makeup every day. I just didn’t see the point in wasting all this time in front of the mirror trying to look perfect & for what?  Now don’t get me wrong, there are times I do like to get dressed up & put on makeup, but it isn’t something I feel I am required to do every morning.

Yes, that’s the word required. It was almost like I use to feel required to do all that stuff because if I didn’t someone would think I looked weird or say “Are you tired?” I'm sure you’ve heard that before. It’s the nice way to say you look like shit.

Well I don’t really care what society says. I am sick of conforming to the pressures of being perfect. Because you know what I realized, no matter how hard I try & no matter how much I spend I will never ever be perfect. No one will.

So today, at age 27 I can finally say & say it with pride that I have no problem going out in public without my hair done or any makeup on. It’s become a way of life for me now - embracing the mess. It’s very rewarding to not care about what I look like and still feel 100% comfortable & secure with myself to go out in public.

With Messy.Dirty.Hair. I have hopes of showing you & the generations to come that we don’t need to strive to be perfect. That it’s ok if your hair isn't sitting perfectly on your head today or if there's a small stain on your jeans, or a button is out of place. Or you left the house with a bare face. It’s okay. Be the REAL version of you. Stay true to yourself. Embrace the Mess.

What is The Messy Challenge you ask?

Well....
Go as long as you can without washing your hair & then send me a picture of you embracing the mess & let me know what day you are on...

I want to see how many of you actually can step out of your skin & embrace the imperfections in life...& with your permission I would love to blog all my lovers who embrace the mess!

Embracing the mess means NO washing your hair in the shower with water, dry shampoo is okay {if you must}...even if it’s one day no washing you are still embracing the mess!

& there will be a prize for whoever goes the longest...

So challenge accepted? I dare you....

Please send all pictures & how many days you went to MessyDirtyHair@gmail.com

he's just not that into you

Posted on 10:36 AM by Unknown
happy Sunday loves! so last night I attended an event at Nordstrom. If you haven't heard yet, the British brand TOPSHOP is now being sold in Nordstrom...& OMG its fabulous! They really went all out for the event! The clothes & accessories are so fun & funky! I can't wait to show you everything next week!
Soooo it is so freaking hott right now in the OC - we are reaching degrees of over 100...& to be honest we did not have this hott weather at all June & July...& then it slowly started to come in August & now I feel like we're in full blown summer mood! so you can imagine how upset I am that I haven't been able to wear any of my fall clothes....i mean I could but then I would probably loose 5 pounds from just sweating because I'm literally dying here....sweat is literally dropping off my body as I write this....but thank god I'm off to the beach today!! then to do a little birthday shopping for the sissy at my fav store...beach + shopping = perfect Sunday!
so today I am linking up with Ashley & Neely for Social Sunday! This weeks questions don't really have a theme but i still thought they were interesting so let's get social!
1.) 5 Items you can't live without on a daily basis (water, food, shelter, & clothes don't count)
-My EOS chap stick...literally the moment I realize I have forgotten my chap stick my lips become instantly chapped...& thank you Brie for introducing me to this wonderful chap stick!
via
-My deodorant & perfume...i have the worst fear of smelling bad
via
-Sadly my iPhone - I hate saying that because I wish I wasn't so depended on my phone but everything - work, blog, life goes on through my phone so I need it
remember the old cell phones - classic!...& I'm still obsessed with Zach Morris - via
-my music - whether it be in the car while driving, or at work in the office. i ALWAYS have my music going...one of my absolute favorite Pandora stations is Hall & Oats - try it...you can thank me later
via
- my TV - gotta have my tv shows

via

2.) All time favorite book? Why?
'He's Just Not that into You' - & here's why - it's dead on. There are so many girls who LOVE to make excuses for guys & reasons why he may not call or not want to be in a relationship...but here's a secret ---> guys aren't as complicated as you think. actually they're not complicated at all. if they want to call you they will. if they want to text you they will. if they want to see you they will. they're not dumb, like most girls like to think...they know exactly what they're doing & know exactly what to say to keep you still hanging around.
i use to read this book over & over in college...but yet I never followed what it said. i always had some excuse...but once i finally did things changed...so listen - if he likes you trust me you will know. you will NOT have to doubt yourself....now if you are doubting yourself then guess what - he's just not that into you. period.
via
3.) Something you'd like to accomplish before the end of 2012?
Getting at least one of my credit cards paid off completely....& for the first time I can actually say I'm making a dent in them...are you proud Janna?!
via
4.) If you could go back & relive any year of your life which year would it be?
My last year in San Diego {2008} - it was such a perfect year. I was finishing up my degree at SDSU, I lived RIGHT by the beach in PB, my studio apartment was so cozy & adorable & the BF got to live with me for a few months during the summer while he was transiting from norcal to socal. We had so much fun exploring San Diego together. One of my favorite things was our mornings on the weekend - we always went to our same breakfast place, had the same thing & walked the boardwalk. San Diego will always be a great memory for us.
5.) What do you wish people knew about you without you having to tell them?
I give GREAT advice...really, I have references....& even though it may come off that I have a very hard exterior, the truth is inside, I have a huge generous heart...I've just been hurt too many times by friends & boys that sometimes its hard to bring it out right away. I have to be very weary...but I'm sure a lot of you have the same feelings...its tough being a girl
via

and just one more thing - if anyone ever needs boy or relationship advice please don't hesitate to email me - you can even be anonymous. I literally feel like an expert in guys & relationships so let me help, I WANT to help! - but be pre-warned I'll give it to you straight - no sugar coating. Again feel free to email me about anything -----> MessyDirtyHair@gmail.com

WANTED - Starbucks Addicts - please apply here!

Posted on 8:44 AM by Unknown
happy Friday lovers!! wahoo we've finally reached the weekend! so we have a mystery pee-er in our house...let me back up a little ----> dolce my cat is known to be a little shit & pee around the house when she's in a bad mood...she knows exactly what she's doing & it drives both my mom & I crazy. At first we thought something was wrong with her so I took her in & after many many test & so much $$$, it turns out nothing is wrong with her, its a behavior issue...that little shit....So Dolce has her usual pee places - my bathroom floor rug, the drapes hanging in the living room, the bed dust rufifle in the guest room - always in some type of corner. Butttttt these past few days things have changed.

It all started when I was about to go to bed, I was shutting the hall light off when i saw a HUGE & I mean HUGE pile of pee right in the middle of the hallway....I didn't think it was dolce because it really was a lot of pee, it wasn't her usual spot - plus we have 2 dogs who have had accidents in the past. Nonetheless, I cleaned it up went to bed.

A day passed - i woke up Thursday morning & was laying in bed with Maxx & Lucy...my bedroom door was open - dolce had been out & about along with the other cats. Maxx jumped off the bed to roll around on the carpet - i literally turned my head for a second to give Lucy some love & when i turned back around there was a huge pile of pee in the middle of my room! I looked at Maxx & I looked for Dolce. Everyone was in sight. I had no idea who did it.....-------> fast forward to Thursday night after work...i had stopped to pick up some things at the store and had two bags - one full of crap I really didn't need to buy & the other was my milk. So when i walked into the house the alarm was going off so I dropped the big bag of stuff right by the front door - ran to shut of the alarm off, then ran to put the milk in the fridge, so I come back to get my big bag of stuff & someone had peed alllllllllll over my bag of stuff...yes some of it was ruined! Of course everyone was around so I couldn't pin point what animal did it...but again it was a lot of pee.

so that brings me back to my original statement...we have a mystery pee-er in the house & ill be damned if I have to clean up another pile of pee --- my gut is telling me it's Dolce being Dolce but the placement & the amount is throwing me off....soooo it looks like we're gonna need to do some detective work & investigate this mystery pee-er....so um, any ideas as to how to catch this mystery pee-er in the act?!

all the cool kids are doing it

Posted on 3:09 AM by Unknown
first - let me start off by saying

Seriously I could never have gotten to 1,000 followers & so quickly without your guys! When I started my blog in February I never thought it would turn into something like this - the movement to embrace the mess. I never thought I would meet so many fabulous girls & create special connections with some of them...when I started the blog, I really had no idea what I was doing - i felt like I was thrown into this brand new world & i remember feeling lost - I just wanted to say a special THANK YOU to Sarah at Coming Unstitched. She was one of the very first bloggers I followed, along with these 2 blogs HERE & HERE...& every time I had a question about anything I would email her & she ALWAYS got right back to me with the answer. She really helped me when I was just starting, so thank you Sarah & THANK YOU everyone else for your continuous support....as a thank you for everything I will holding a HUGE giveaway next week - so keep your eyes & ears open!

ok so its not secret I have messy hair...it can really get beastly & even start turning into dreads if I leave it dirty long enough...so I wasn't too surprised when I was contact by Misikko, Hana Salon to try out their CHI Straightener....I am the perfect candidate to test how well a hair straightener really straightens your hair. However, its just not all about having straight hair. Since I have SUPER thick hair I am very particular with the way the tool will glide on my hair & if it pulls out any hairs while straightening....

So imagine my surprise when I got the box & opened it thinking I was getting just a CHI Straightener

there was A LOT more than just a straightener in that box - my favorite thing about it - the way it was presented...the packaging & the ribbons were adorable. Everything was wrapped so cute & girly. I loved it. Presentation is a huge factor for me as well. I think it shows how much a company really cares about their product. Even better was that the CHI Straightener came with a heating pad to place the flat iron on when you're using it along with a little pouch to keep your CHI Straightener in when you travel! Never once in the past when I had purchased a hair straightener did I ever get a heating pad & carry case...& the straighteners I've bought in the past were pretty $$$ too...so this was exciting!

I wanted to make sure my hair was in full blast messiness before I tried out the CHI Straightener ----

oh yes look at the back...a complete mess! so i knew this was the perfect time to try the CHI Straightener from Misikko, Hana Salon - - So when I straighten my hair I do it in rows - i have too. I just have way too much hair not too. So I put up all my hair on top of my head with a clip and started with the bottom

The VERY first strand I straightened I could already see a difference. However, what I liked was that the CHI Straightener glided so nicely on my hair. It didn't get stuck & cause my hair to get all tangled. It was a smooth glide over the strands of my hair. The CHI Straightener didn't pull at any of my hairs - it was as smooth & silky as it could be. Also what I noticed was I didn't have to keep going over the same strand of hair to get it straight. One or two times tops & it was straight. That defiantly saved me time.

Even better it has different levels of heat you can turn it too depending on how hot you want it - since my hair is a beast I had it on the hottest it could be - 450....So have you ever straightened your hair & literally could hear & feel the straightener burning your hair? Well the CHI Straightener doesn't do that. Even on the highest heat possible it did not burn my hair. Nothing was sizzling.

I also liked how it was thin & light weight. I've used hair straighteners in the past that have been really heavy & to be honest gave my arm an workout when using them. The CHI Straightener is skinny & small & doesn't cause your arm to get tired.

Soooo are you ready to see the final product?

You can see I missed one strand of wave in the back - its really hard for me to get every piece, I really do have too much hair. Buttttt overall the CHI Straightener from Misikko, Hana Salon was FABULOUS! Not only did it get my hair straight, but it left it feeling SO soft & silky. The CHI Straightener did a great job of going

and in less than 30 minutes!!! Usually it takes about 45 minutes to REALLY straighten my hair, but because of the level of heat & the iron itself I saved time & still got my super straight hair. I really enjoyed all the products Misikko, Hana Salon sent me & I would recommend them to anyone...even my super amazing hair stylist. The CHI Straightener left my hair feeling soft & silky...& it even stayed straight for a few days after...I didn't have to re-straighten.

So if you like to straighten your hair more often than not, I highly suggest investing in a CHI Straightener from Misikko, Hana Salon - not only will it get your hair straight, but it won't damage it in the process. Wanna buy one like right this second?!? GREAT...go HERE...you can thank me later!
